An Australian National Championship Regatta for the Heron class is held each year. The next Heron National Championship Regatta will be held at the St Leonards Yacht Club and Motor Squadron in January 2025. This will be the 64th National Championship Regatta for the class.

David and Maddison are the Australian National Champions in the Heron Class after winning the 63rd National Heron Championship regatta sailed at YMCA SC in Canberra from 6-12 January 2024. This was David’s 3rd time as Heron National Champion, after he also won the 52nd National Championship at St Leonards, Victoria and the 56th National Championship at Lindisfarne, Tasmania.
The First Lady prize was won by Kate Sturwohld, with crew Jake Sturwohld in 10220 Light Fury. The Junior category was won by Michael Straffon and Eli Cornford in 9637 Phar Lap. First on Handicap were Oliver Sturwohld and Lydia Casey in 9932 Gone Bananas.
