An Australian National Championship Regatta for the Heron class is held each year. This year’s regatta was held at the Wangi RSL Amateur Sailing Club in NSW from 5-10 January 2026.

Kylie and Mia returned to the winners’ circle at the 65th National Heron Championship regatta sailed at Wangi RSL Amateur Sailing Club in NSW from 5-10 January 2026, winning the championship overall, as well as the first lady trophy, after sailing consistently throughout the series and establishing an insurmountable lead before the final race, never having finished lower than 3rd. Kylie and Mia had previously won at the 62nd National Championship in South Australia, and finished 2nd in the 64th National Championship in Victoria.
Second overall was defending champion David Johnson, with Timothy Harvey, in 10365 Chicken Dinner, and in third place were paul Armstrong and Claire Harris in 10272 O for Awesome. First juniors were Finn Savage and Joel Vaiciurgis in 10289 Flo.
Forty one boats took part in the regatta, with competitors from most parts of the country, including several newcomers to the class.
The next Heron National Championship Regatta will be held at the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club in January 2027. This will be the 66th National Heron Championship Regatta.
